Hell yeah, it took approximately 22-23 hours to fly from Jakarta to Moscow. So i'm posting from the sky right now. Anyway, i have a talk with my girl that she wants an Alfa 159, and she ask me is it a good car?

I told her hell yes, it looks cool. But is it really a good car? Any opponaut have driven one of this? Here's a 159 for your problems.

I have a family friend who owned one, he loved the thing but ultimately got rid due to maintenance costs. Never broke down on him, it just had a lot of little issues. Really nice car to be in though if you have the money to keep it in good condition.

Well, i guess she got the monies for that. Is it the one with selespeed? I heard that gearbox could be troublesome

Na it was a manual. The issues were mostly electrical I believe.

My wife was interested in one of these as our driver car now that we're settling into Belgium. The wagon looks so much better than the sedan. I think we'll wind up with a BMW 3-series wagon or VW Golf at this rate.

They're a nice place to be, and handle just fine, but they're damn heavy. The 2.2 JTS isn't very exciting - the 5-cylinder JTDm is super practical if you can live with a diesel. Otherwise there's the 3.2l V6 which has decent power and AWD, or the late model 1.75TBi - which puts out as much torque as the V6 while saving about 200kg of weight.

On paper, you'd be better off with a 3-series or an A4 ... but the Alfa - just look at it.

Yeah, i told her "Why not get yourself a nice Audi A4?" And she says "no, just look at the 159."

I think i'll tell her get the 1.75 . She doesn't really care about engine since she comes from a Honda Jazz, and i think this car is muuuuuuuuch better than the Jazz.

They have a poor reputation but they're not common on the 159 and were only ever sold with the petrol engines.

Have driven it a lot (2.4 jtdm owned by my business partner some years ago). Good Torque. Bad quality. Too many kgs in front of the front axle. A 4-banger is the one you want when you want a driver's car. That 2.4 is a good cruiser with lots of small but irritating quality issues. Looks awesome. Not a good car. Typical Alfa: with that looks some can forget it's flaws. The owner of that 2.4 couldn't. He happily drives a 320i nowadays.

It has a very high seating position. The quality of materials inside is good. No ratles at all .And, as expected, it is not as good to drive as a 3 series. The big diesel is horrible. I havent driven the petrol ones, but as it is a heavy car so choose wisely. Test drive in town is essencial.

But it is really good looking. She will love it !

I love the 159. It's a beautiful car. My neighbor in Colombia has a 2011 159 2.2 JTS SeleSpeed. She told me that it's actually really reliable. It's never broken down on her. She was nice enough to give me the keys and the car for an hour. It's not very fast, but it's an Alfa. It was one hell of a drive. I'll never forget it. There's something about Alfas that make you feel special while driving one. It even had paddle shifters. The interior is nicely appointed. I hope this helps!
